General information about this Surgery Our specialist vets care for dogs and cats with orthopaedic (eg cruciate disease), spinal (eg paralysis problems), eye (eg cataracts, glaucoma) and medical conditions (eg diabetes, Cushing's syndrome, cancer). For an appointment with one of our clinicians you need to be referred to us by your own vet. We have an excellent team of dedicated staff who really care about the welfare of their patients. Many of them have either already undergone or are currently undertaking specialised training. Our philosophy is very much one of treating each of our patients as we would wish to treat our own animals (and most of us have dogs or cats).
Our surgeons commonly deal with paralysed dogs, many of which benefit from spinal operations and, amongst many other problems, our orthopaedic team also handle large numbers of patients with cruciate ligament rupture of the knee joint (often using a modern procedure known as a 'TPLO'). Our practice is also one of the major centres in the UK for performing total hip replacement surgery. This is most commonly performed on dogs with significant lameness due to hip dysplasia.
Our team of eye specialists deal with all manner of eye problems, whether of the eyelids (e.g. entropion, 'cherry eye, distichiasis) the cornea (e.g. corneal ulcer, sequestrum, dry eye) or the lens (e.g. cataract, lens luxation). We commonly see patients with glaucoma, some of which can benefit from laser surgery, and our cataract patients are treated with the most up to date surgery currently available (phacoemulsification or 'phaco').
Many of our veterinary surgeons have national/international reputations and most have written scientific papers, published in text books and regularly speak at local, national and international meetings. As well as offering continuing education to other members of our profession, our vets also regularly attend scientific meetings in order to keep right up to date in their fields of expertise. When required they travel in the USA and Europe to learn new techniques and exchange ideas with other international experts.
Our practice is superbly equipped and we are constantly upgrading and updating our facilities.
